A Reel Fling On The Road To Crathes Castle
The latest recording (2006) from the Banchory Strathspey & Reel Society features the senior orchestra led by conductor Jane Davidson and the junior orchestra by the very enthusiastic Tracey Webster. The Society membership is stronger than ever. The recording features many rousing sets with tunes old and new to get your feet tapping and also to contrast some beautiful slow airs. We are again delighted to have great solo playing from Paul Anderson who himself has played in the society since he was 10 years old. We hope you the listeners enjoy our music as much as we enjoy making it.
70 Years On
Released in December 2002, this CD celebrates the society’s 70th year. It features a variety of tunes from the Senior Orchestra conducted by Jane Davidson and a set of scottish waltzes from the Junior Orchestra conducted by Tracey Webster. The CD also features solo tunes from Graeme Davidson, Stuart Robertson and Donna Davidson.
A Tune for Bill
This recording covers a range of Scottish music from slow airs, through marches and strathspeys, to reels and jigs. It also introduces three new fiddle soloists, Emily Kostulin, Claire Telford and Stuart Robertson. For the first time, we have an accordian solo from Jennifer Forrest. 1998 was a very sad year for the members of the Society, with the sad loss of Bill Smith. Bill was the society secretary for 23 years. He actively promoted the society at home and abroad, co-ordinating many tours in France, Germany and Canada. He lived for his music and gained great pleasure from encouraging the young.
Tribute to Scott Skinner
This CD features eight tracks of music written by James Scott Skinner, Banchory’s most famous son, born in 1843. It highlights the excellent solo fiddle playing of Russell Kostulin, Keith Anderson and Paul Anderson. The remaining eight tracks provide a fine contrast in music. The Senior Orchestra is conducted by Sandy Cooper and the Junior Orchestra is led by Mrs Jane Davidson.
Ceol Na Fidhle Champions 1993 & 1994
Our Society were the winners of Grampian TV’s Ceol Na Fidhle series in 1993 and 1994. The orchestra has followed the format television programme using an ensemble and soloists. We have also introduced a beautiful Slow Air, James Logan OBE, which was composed by Angus Fitchet at the Society’s request to mark the passing of a gifted producer who provided great and valued service to the Aberdeen, Banchory and Elgin Societies.
